On Friday, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) announced it had suspended the FSC license of Du Chateau, and their Chinese supplier Yuhua, after the Sierra Club investigation revealed misuse of the marks – using the FSC name to market non-certified material. In light of this news, American OEM wants to reassure our customers that we take sustainability very seriously by manufacturing only sustainable engineered wood flooring.

As a reminder, all of the wood used in our products is sourced from United States’ renewing forests, where there is three times as much hardwood volume growing today than there was 100 years ago, and twice as much as 50 years ago. The US timber supply is increasing in number every year. Additionally, all of our veneer is verified through the NWFA’s Responsible Procurement Program (RPP), an audited third party certification for sustainable hardwood raw material.

Harvesting hardwoods sustainably has been a long-time mission of our founder, Don Finkell, who implemented Best Management Practices for timber suppliers in the southeast beginning in the 1980s. Don was also a primary author and facilitator of NWFA’s RPP, which seeks to increase the demand for domestically harvested trees coming from states where the growth rate exceeds the cut rate. This program ensures a surplus of hardwood growing in the US, protecting the resource for future generations.
